Salwar kameez or shalwar kameez?

Salwar kameez is the spelling most Indian shoppers use and shalwar kameez the Pakistani one; the outfit is the same. The kameez is the shirt, the salwar or shalwar is the loose trouser, and the dupatta is the long scarf. Pakistani shops often just say suit or dress, and they count the parts: a 2-piece is shirt and trouser, a 3-piece adds the dupatta.

The bottoms vary as much as the shirts. Some suits here come with a classic shalwar, one lawn suit has a wide farshi shalwar, several are palazzo suits, and the lawn and khaddar maxi dresses are long, flowing styles at 49 to 50 inches.

Fabrics, from summer lawn to winter khaddar

Lawn is the light cotton that Pakistani summers are known for, and there's plenty of it here: printed and embroidered lawn, branded airjet lawn and doria lawn maxi dresses.
