When is Eid, and what will the weather be like?
Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, and Eid al-Fitr, the celebration at the end of the fast, is expected around 9 or 10 March 2027, depending on when the new moon is seen. The exact day is confirmed only the night before, on chand raat, so many families have their outfits ready a week early.
In much of the US, early March is still cool. Plan for a light fabric you would wear indoors at a family home or a dinner, with a shawl, cardigan or coat for going out. If you are ordering online, start early: Shagufta confirms the shipping cost with you on WhatsApp before anything is sent, so message her in the first weeks of Ramadan rather than the last.
Many families celebrate over two or three days, with prayers and a big breakfast or lunch on the first morning and visits to relatives and friends after that. If you will be out on more than one day, plan one Eid outfit for the morning and a second, dressier one for the evening or the day after, and mix in a dupatta or jewelry you already own.
Light Eid looks in lawn, cotton and chiffon
For Eid morning, prayers and lunch with family, most women choose something comfortable and fresh. A printed or embroidered Pakistani lawn suit with a chiffon or lawn dupatta is the classic choice: light, easy to move in and pretty in photos. Cotton suits and embroidered cotton kurtis work too, especially if the day is chilly.
A few easy combinations:
- A pastel lawn 3-piece suit with a chiffon dupatta and gold jhumkas.
- An embroidered cotton kurti with a tulip shalwar or palazzos, plus an organza dupatta to dress it up.
- A white or cream kurta set with a bright ajrak or chunri print dupatta.
- A lawn maxi dress with flat khussas for a relaxed but festive day.
Dressier Eid outfits for the evening
For Eid dinner, a dawat at a friend's house or a party in the evening, people dress up more. Chiffon, organza, georgette and silk catch the light and feel special without being as heavy as wedding wear. A chiffon suit with embroidery at the neck and sleeves, a palazzo suit with an embroidered organza dupatta, or a silk 2-piece in a rich color all feel right for the night.
Party wear doesn't have to be expensive: everything in Shagufta's shop is priced from $11 to $45, party wear dresses included. Finish the look with a clutch, statement earrings or a stack of glass bangles, and mehndi on your hands if you have time on chand raat.
Think about comfort, too. Eid dinners often mean long hours sitting, eating and chatting, so a fully lined chiffon shirt, a soft palazzo or a stretchy churidar will feel better at midnight than anything stiff or tight. If your suit has a heavy embroidered dupatta, pin it at one shoulder so your hands stay free for serving and hugging.
Colors for Eid
There is no set color for Eid al-Fitr, but some favorites come back every year. A spring Eid suits white, cream and pastels such as mint, peach, powder pink and lilac. Yellow and green feel bright and joyful, and green is a long-time Eid favorite. For the evening, deeper shades like maroon, emerald, navy and gold look rich under indoor lights.
If you are dressing the whole family, choose one shared color, for example everyone in pink or everyone with a touch of gold, rather than identical outfits. It looks coordinated in photos and lets each person wear the style they like.
Matching outfits for girls
Girls love a new outfit almost as much as their Eidi. A 2-piece or 3-piece suit in soft cotton or lawn is comfortable for a long day of visiting, and a light organza dupatta makes it feel special. For mother-and-daughter looks, pick the same color family or a similar print and keep the girl's outfit simpler, so she can play in it.
Shagufta's girls' outfits come with measurement photos, and several list the age they fit, such as 9 to 10 or 11 to 12 years. Measure a dress that fits your daughter now and compare; growing girls are usually happier with an inch to spare.
Keep the details practical for younger girls: soft cotton against the skin, a dupatta she can take off once the photos are done, and flat shoes she can run in. A small matching bag for her Eidi money is always a hit.
What to wear to Eid as a non-Muslim guest
If a friend or coworker invites you to an Eid party or dinner, nobody expects a particular outfit, but modest, festive clothes are a kind gesture. Cover your shoulders, choose a hem around or below the knee, and avoid anything very sheer or tight. A long dress, a skirt with a nice top, or smart trousers with a long blouse all work well.
Wearing a salwar kameez, a kurta set or a long kurti with palazzos is welcome too, and most hosts take it as a compliment. Pick a bright or pastel color, keep it comfortable for sitting on a sofa or floor cushions, and bring a dupatta or scarf. You only need to cover your hair if you go into a mosque or join the prayer; at a home or restaurant it's up to you.
Bring a small box of sweets or a dessert, greet people with 'Eid Mubarak', and if you are unsure about the dress code, simply ask your host.
